London, June 4 (ANI): Pakistan-origin British politician Baroness Warsi should face a police inquiry over alleged abuse of her parliamentary expenses, the opposition Labour Party said.

Warsi is facing allegations of claiming up to 2,000 pounds for staying rent-free at the house of a Tory party donor, The Telegraph reports.

The House of Lords is already questioning her on the issue, but Labour is trying to increase the pressure on her over her expenses and business interests.

Karl Turner, a Labour MP wrote to the City of London Police asking them to investigate the allegations against the minister.

"It appears that Baroness Warsi may have claimed for expenses which she did not in fact incur, and that a criminal offence may therefore have been committed," Turner said.

"There are serious questions to answer which is why I have written to the police to ask that an inquiry be undertaken," he added.

Warsi has, however, denied any wrongdoing in relation to her expenses and finances.

David Cameron has backed her, but some Tory aides are worried about the scrutiny she will face from Kernaghan, a former police constable with a reputation for painstaking inquiries.

Labour has also raised questions about the presence of a business associate, Abid Hussain, on an official trip to Pakistan undertaken by the peer.

Warsi has also denied failing to register a business interests, insisting she had stuck by the rules for declaring shareholdings and directorships.

Reports suggest that Wasri reportedly failed to declare a controlling stake in a spice manufacturing firm with the House of Lords authorities. (ANI)
