Madhya Pradesh doctors threaten mass leave

Bhopal, June 4 (IANS) Health services in Madhya Pradesh may be paralyzed if government doctors carry out their threat to resign en masse July 1 to press for higher salaries.

Government doctors claim that despite Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's repeated assurances of granting four-tier pay scales to doctors, the finance and health departments have not done so.

Madhya Pradesh Medical Officers Association president Lalit Shrivastava said the cabinet approved a four-tier pay structure for government doctors way back in 2008.

"Subsequently some senior doctors started receiving hiked salaries," he said.

"However, some months later, the government took a u-turn and ordered recovery of amounts paid as increased salaries."
