Murray slams tennis legend Wade for branding him 'drama queen'

London, Jun 1(ANI): British number one Tennis player Andy Murray has criticized legendary tennis player Virginia Wade for branding him a 'drama queen' during his second round French Open match, where he suffered a crippling back spasm.

Murray managed to beat Jarkko Nieminen 1-6 6-4 6-1 6-2, but Wade, who won the Wimbledon in 1977, questioned his on-court frowns.

"I have tremendous sympathy that his back is bad, but I have more sympathy for the other guy as, honestly, you cannot play against someone who is being a drama queen," Wade said on an English news channel.

But Murray insisted the problem has nothing to do with the back niggle he brought into the French Open, and wasted no time hitting back.

"That's quite disappointing, to be honest. You have people who always have to come out and say something controversial," The Sun quoted Murray, as saying.

"They should be supportive, or maybe ask me first. I've known Virginia since I was a young kid, she used to coach with my mum so, to me, that's quite disappointing," he added.

"She has no idea what I was feeling on the court. I don't really see what the point would be in play-acting," he said. (ANI)
