Aid-dependent nuclear Pak has become "beggar state": CM Shahbaz

Lahore, Tue, 29 May 2012 ANI

Lahore, May 29 (ANI): Chief Minister of Pakistan's Punjab province Shahbaz Sharif has said Pakistan has become a "beggar state" despite being a nuclear nation because of its dependency on foreign aid, adding that no nation in the world can prosper on aid.

"Aid is like AIDS, which first weakens and then cripples the immunity system, ultimately killing the person. Aid is akin to that," The Express Tribune quoted Sharif, as saying.

"We will have to give up our begging bowl and rely on our own resources for progress. We need to understand that we have to protect this country first and then build it. We are slipping down the road very rapidly," he added. (ANI)
