London, May 27(ANI): German football legend Franz Beckenbauer has said matches that end without a result should continue to be decided by penalty shootouts, as he believes bringing emotions into the play is way better than deciding the winner through toss of a coin.
Beckenbauer, whose former club Bayern Munich lost the Champions League final on penalties to Chelsea, is head of the FIFA Task Force charged by president Sepp Blatter with finding an alternative to shoot-outs ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
But Beckenbauer says they "bring emotions into play and are a lot more attractive than the toss of a coin", the Daily Express reports.
Earlier, Blatter told the FIFA Congress that football "loses its essence" when matches are settled by penalties.
But Blatter later clarified his view on Twitter, saying matches should be decided "11 v 11", though he did not want to scrap shoot-outs. (ANI)
