Alexandra Burke reveals heartbreak over split with love rat Jermain Defoe

London, May 26 (ANI): Alexandra Burke has revealed her heartbreak over her split with Jermain Defoe saying "I don't know how to cope with it."

The 'X Factor' winner embarked on the affair with the Spurs and England star despite reportedly receiving a warning from his former girlfriend Chantelle Houghton that he was "a nasty person who cheats on everyone."

"I'm quite naive. I think that comes from me wearing my heart on my sleeve," the Mirror quoted her as saying in an interview, although she doesn't mention Defoe by name.

"I never paint anyone with the same brush or judge anyone on their past, or on what anyone else says. When I meet someone, they have my trust 100 per cent until proven guilty. That's just the way I am.

"My mum keeps saying to stop doing it, but that's just me and I'm not changing myself for anyone - not my mum, not my dad," she said.

When asked in the interview if it had left her hurt, she said, "Yes, it definitely has, and I don't know how to cope with it sometimes, if I'm completely honest.

"All I can do is get on with it day by day. If I get hurt, not that I don't work hard enough already, I throw myself into work. I go to my management and say, 'Do whatever you need to keep me busy 24 hours of the day so I don't have to think'.

"I'm a such a loyal person. That's what I give out and I expect to get it back. Sometimes you don't and it does hurt. But that's just the way I am," she said.

The split with Defoe is the latest upset in Burke's far from smooth post-X Factor life. Having won the show in 2008, she subsequently parted with Simon Cowell's Syco label during the making of Heartbreak On Hold, her delayed second album. (ANI)
