France,Defence/Security, Sat, 26 May 2012 IANS

Moscow, May 26 (IANS/RIA Novosti) As many as six riot police officers, injured in clashes during an anti-Putin rally in Moscow earlier this month, have been rewarded with new apartments.

The apartments were provided from the interior ministry's own special housing stock, not the city's, which does not violate the rights of people on a waiting list for municipal housing, officials said.

Police cracked down on an anti-Putin rally in Moscow May 6, clubbing demonstrators and making scores of arrests after hundreds of people briefly broke through their lines to take their protest to the Kremlin walls.

The violence occurred on the eve of Vladimir Putin's inauguration as president.

Putin secured a third term in the Kremlin following elections.

Police said protesters, armed with bottles and stones, injured four officers.
