Ludhiana- based firms' dengue antidote caught in red tape despite clearing trials

Ludhiana , Thu, 24 May 2012 ANI

Ludhiana, May 24 (ANI): Ayurvedic antidote for Dengue that cleared trials last year is awaiting an official go- ahead from the state authorities to facilitate its over the counter sale.

The manufacturers of the medicine are struggling with red tape to get license clearance for the formula and its eventual sale.

Developed by Nixon Biotech Company, it was put on trial at the behest of former health minister Satpal Gosai.

Ravi Goel, Head of Nixon Biotech Company, said the medicine could be used in clinical practice but was not available for sale.

Interestingly, the government-appointed committee that issues clearances for Ayurvedic medicines is devoid of technically equipped personnel. Its commissioner and member- secretary are bureaucrats without relevant technical expertise, while experts have been kept out of the committee. By Karan Kapoor (ANI)
