London, May 24 (ANI): A university dean was forced to apologise to his graduates after an embarrassing typo was made on the commencement programs for their ceremony.

The programs handed out before the ceremony announced that the students were graduating from Lyndon B. Johnson School of 'Pubic' Affairs.

The mistake made at University of Texas, Austin has mostly caused amusement and it was quickly resolved, but not before a picture of the pamphlet was published on the social network website Twitter.

The university has apologised to the students and their families in a letter written by the Lyndon B Johnson School of Public Affairs dean Robert Hutchings.

He has called the mistake 'inexcusable' and promised new copies to the students.

"No one feels worse about this than I do, so please accept my deepest personal apology," the Daily Mail quoted him as saying.

Susan Binford, assistant dean for communications at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, said that the 'pubic' typo was spotted after the programs were distributed at Saturday's commencement exercises.

"Obviously, we are mortified. It's beyond embarrassing," Binford said.

"As soon as we realised the mistake, everybody went into overdrive and we went to work to reprint it," Binford added.

The school also turned to Twitter to issue an apology.

However, the message was originally also misspelled with version number one calling the typo 'eggregious' instead of 'egregious'. (ANI)
