Shallow undersea quake hits eastern Indonesia

Jakarta, May 22 (Xinhua-ANI): An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale struck off eastern parts of Indonesia earlier Tuesday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported here Tuesday.

The quake jolted at 09:38 a.m. local time (0238 GMT) with epicenter at 152 km southeast Siautgulandang Biaro of North Sulawesi and with the depth at 10 km under sea bed, it said.

Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake hit-zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire." (Xinhua-ANI)
