Nawanshahr (Punjab), May 21 (IANS) An attempt by terrorists to strike in Punjab was foiled with the arrest of two Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) militants and recovery of three kg RDX and other arms, police said Monday.
Patiala range Inspector General Paramjit Singh Gill said terror suspects Sandeep Singh of Jalandhar district and Sukhwinder Singh of Khanna district were arrested Sunday in Nawanshahr district, about 80 km from state capital Chandigarh.
Gill said the mastermind of the plan was terrorist Gurnek Singh, suspected to be based in the US.
He said that further investigations would reveal where the terrorists wanted to strike.
'We have recovered three bombs, two timers, three detonators, two Chinese-made pistols and 11 rounds of ammunition from their possession,' Gill said.
He said the RDX had been smuggled from Pakistan through the India-Pakistan border in the Ferozepur sector in 2010 and had been hidden by the KZF terrorists.
Investigations revealed that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence was behind the move to revive terrorism in Punjab, he said.
