New Delhi, May 20 (ANI): Asserting that the law and order situation in West Bengal is a matter of grave concern, Communist Party of India (CPI) lawmaker D. Raja on Sunday said Mamata Banerjee might have completed a year as chief minister in the state, but there is nothing spectacular to show as success during her tenure.

Raja alleged that Banerjee has very diverting the Centre's attention on several things rather than finding a way out to get rid of the prevalent problems in West Bengal.

"She will be climbing the one-year rule. It's a big success. But she has to be very realistic. For common people, it is still disappointment. Instead of concentrating on governance, she is diverting her energies on several other things. In West Bengal today, law and order has become a major concern. Then the situation in educational institutions, hospitals is a matter of concern. How to improve the functions of educational institutions or health care institutions must be one of her priorities? said Raja.

"I do not know what she is going to do in the coming days. On one hand, she complains all the time (that the) state needs more funds. Yes, it is not her demand alone, there are several state governments asking for more funds from the Central Government. That is a separate issue. West Bengal should be given more funds, we have no problem. Bihar is asking for more funds, Tamil Nadu is asking for more funds, the state governments asking for more funds is a separate issue," he added.

Raja further said it is high time that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief rises above all consideration, and acts as a responsible chief minister, accountable to the people of West Bengal.

"But she should not try to see red in everything, for instance whatever happens there, she should not try to find fault with the Left in general and CPI-M in particular. Now, she has to rise above all these considerations and she must act s a chief minister responsible for the entire state, accountable to the people of West Bengal and she has to prove that she is capable of giving a transparent, good governance," he said.

Banerjee, who is the first woman to hold the prestigious office of chief minister, stormed to power in West Bengal last year after ending the Left Front's 34-year rule over the state.

The TMC celebrated a year in power, as its detractors criticized Mamata Banerjee Government for not delivering the promises made in her election manifesto. (ANI)
