73-year-old woman climbs Mount Everest

Sydney, May 19 (IANS) A 73-year-old Japanese woman Saturday broke her own record to again become the oldest woman to scale Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain, a media report said.

 

Tamae Watanabe reached Everest's 8,848-metre-high summit from the northern side of the mountain with four other team members, the Australian Associated Press (AAP) quoted Ang Tshering of the China Tibet Mountaineering Association as saying.

 

Watanabe and the other team members were in good condition and on their way back to the base.

 

The woman had climbed Everest in 2002 at the age of 63 to become the oldest woman then to scale the peak.
