Warsaw, May 17 (IANS) There are no signals of outside security threats to the upcoming European football championship, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski confirmed.

Attending a sitting of the National Security Council devoted to Euro 2012 and the NATO summit in Chicago, Komorowski also appealed to trade unionists to postpone radical political protests and demonstrations until the end of the tournament.

Quoting Euro-related government security reports, Komorowski said there were no signals of security threats to the tournament, co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine. He added that all Polish security services and the army have been in full preparation, reported Xinhua.

According to the president, a problem source during Euro 2012 could be transportation, especially in view of the large numbers of foreign football fans expected in Poland. Komorowski said this would call for the activation of additional security means.

Appealing to political protesters to withhold demonstrations during the championship, Komorowski noted that no political moves warranting protests would take place during the championship. He also quoted opinion polls showing that 70 percent of Poles were for political peace during the event
