Kirti Azad terms Wankhede brawl 'disgraceful'
New Delhi, May 17 (ANI): Reacting to reports that the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is considering imposing a ban on Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan from the Wankhede Stadium, former cricketer and BJP Lok Sabha member Kirti Azad on Thursday termed the incident 'disgraceful'.
Talking to media outside Parliament a day after Khan reportedly misbehaved with security personnel and MCA officials, Azad said: "I was saddened after hearing the controversy. I can't believe that SRK was drunk, and he can go in a drunken state.
"Its unfortunate and I feel sorry for he state of affairs as I know him personally. Its ridiculous and I feel ashamed. I feel sorry for the cricket loving public of the country," he added.
Azad also claimed that he felt ashamed of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for all that has happened.
"We had spot fixing a few days ago, now there are brawls taking place. From match fixing to spot fixing, the BCCI has grown," he said.
Criticizing the BCCI, Azad said: "BCCI play double standards. They play like 'Ali Baba and Chaalis Chor'. I suppose, over the years, BCCI has grown appalling. It's a big question mark on their integrity."
Earlier, Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council chairman Rajiv Shukla said no final decision has been taken on banning Khan from the Wankhede Stadium.
"I will take the version of the MCA, Shah Rukh Khan and the police before talking about the issue," Shukla said.
"The decision of a ban is taken by the Working Committee (of the BCCI). So, I will speak to MCA President Vilasrao Deshmukh on this. I have to take the version of all parties involved and then speak," Shukla added.
The scuffle happened last night when the actor and his entourage were stopped from going on to the ground after the match, which the Kolkata Knight Riders won.
The cricket association has lodged a police complaint and said it will also complain to the BCCI.
"He (Khan) misbehaved and abused the MCA security personnel as well as MCA officials, including our president Vilasrao Deshmukh, after the IPL match (between KKR and Mumbai Indians). We have decided to ban him for life from entering the stadium in future," MCA treasurer Ravi Sawant said.
"He was dead drunk, our security tried to stop him but he pushed him and abused in such filthy language that I cannot use it here. Our officials tried to pacify him but he started abusing them, he abused MCA, BCCI and used the f word and said whatever you want to do you do it...," Sawant added. (ANI)
