London, May 15(ANI): England manager Roy Hodgson has appointed former Manchester United captain Gary Neville to his senior coaching staff.
Hodgson believes he wanted a younger member in his coaching staff who has good experience with the England team, and some one who is respected by every player in the dressing room.
With Ray Lewington appointed as assistant manager and Dave Watson named goalkeeping coach, the Hodgson's coaching staff for Euro 2012 is now complete.
"Gary has achieved so much in the game as a player with Manchester United and England. He has Uefa coaching qualifications and will be tremendously respected by the players because of his vast experience as a player," The Telegraph quoted Hodgson, as saying.
"At my first meeting with the FA, I explained that Gary was someone I wanted as part of my staff. I think it is very important we have a younger coach who knows the dressing room and is very experienced at international level," he added
That he has represented England as a player at five major tournaments will make him an invaluable member of staff," he said.
Neville, who has played 85 times for the England team, though, has never worked as a full-time coach and now faces the difficult balancing act of working closely with players and his work for Sky or as a newspaper columnist.
Neville has accepted a four-year long contract and will not undertake any media work while he is on England duty and. The Football Association, however, does not regard his television punditry as a problem.
"To work with the national team is not only an honour but a very special moment for me. I'm relishing the opportunity to work with Roy and the team at the Euros and through to the next two tournaments," Neville said. (ANI)
