New Delhi, May 14 (ANI): Tibetans in the capital paid homage and offered prayers to Jamphel Yeshi at Jantar Mantar on Monday. Yeshi had self-immolated at the very venue in protest against the repressive Chinese rule, hours before Chinese President Hu Jintao's arrival in India for BRICS summit.
"On 15th May, it will be the 39th day and prayer sessions will continue in our colony. We have come a day before the actual day at the same spot in Jantar Mantar, where he self-immolated himself. We have all congregated here for a prayer session and are praying for the peace of his soul," said Tsering, a Tibetan.
Born in Tibet but living in exile in India, Yeshi was an activist with the youth organization, which sought independence for the Himalayan region, under Chinese rule for more than six decades.
More than thirty Tibetans, mostly Buddhist monks and nuns, had self- immolated last year, according to Tibetan rights groups. (ANI)
