New Delhi, may 11 (ANI): Poets in New Delhi are gearing up to revive the rich poetic culture of the city.
They have initiated a movement 'Poetry at the Monument' in which poetry readings will be organized at seven key monuments in the ancient Mughal city.
The first in the series will be held on May 13 at the famous Humanyun's tomb at 6.30 a.m.
Alka Tyagi and Abhay Kumar are among the popular poets who have organized the event along with the support of Tarannum Riyaz and Vijayshankar.
Rapid westernisation of Indian culture and traditions has damaged the poetic character of New Delhi.
Once regarded as India's cultural capital, Delhi has turned into a wasteland. It was once home to great poets like Amir Khusro, Ferozeshah, Mir, Ghalib and Dara Sikoh.
The main aim of this event is to infuse vitality in people who are burdened by the demands of a fast city life.
Poets such as Ganga Prasad Vimal, Sukrita Paul Kumar, Anamika, Anand Kumar, Lakshmi Shankar Vajpai, Akhil Katyal, Lokesh Jain and Abhijit will part in the event. (ANI)
