Microsoft to revamp Bing search engines for enabling use of Facebook tips

Washington, May 11 (ANI): Microsoft is revamping its Bing search engine to allow it to use advice from Facebook and other media platforms.

A new sidebar is set to be introduced by Microsoft on the Bing page, which would connect users with friends and other enthusiasts who can provide help.

The new social results, following a navigation command, will appear in a grey column on the right-hand side of Bing's results page.

According to The BBC, the firm claimed their move based on the fact that "90 percent of people consult with a friend or expert before making a decision".

"Bing suggests friends on Facebook who might know about the topic - based on what they 'like', their Facebook profile information, or photos they have shared so you can easily ask them about relevant experiences and opinions," Microsoft was quoted, as saying on its blog.

The firm said that beyond Facebook, it would also flag up with other social media sites, identified from their posts, such as Google+, Twitter, Foursquare, Quora and Linkedin.

Microsoft said that the service would roll out "in the coming days" in the U.S., but clarify about other locations. (ANI)
