Man caught trying to rob Chicago bank in floral dress

Melbourne, May 9 (ANI): A man, who tried to rob a Chicago area bank dressed as a woman, has been charged with attempted robbery.

Donald R. Sherman got ready for the robbery by donning a floral dress, a baseball cap with the word "Obama" stitched on it and a pair of strategically placed balloons.

The 51-year-old walked into a branch of MB Financial Bank at about 1.20pm local time and demanded 70,000 dollars first from a manager, then a teller, the Chicago Tribune reported, citing court documents.

"Could you fill these bags with 70,000 dollars... they're going to kill us," Sherman allegedly told the teller, without explaining who "they" were.

According to the court documents, he also claimed that he had a bomb strapped to his body, the Herald Sun reported.

Bank staff refused to hand over the money. Instead, the bank manager rang police who responded to the scene and arrested Sherman outside the bank.

Cops frisking the man found two blue balloons "in the vicinity of [his] chest."

Sherman, who was later shown the video footage of the attempted robbery, has reportedly admitted to the crime. (ANI)
