Islamabad, May 9 (ANI): The United States has claimed that its ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter will quit because of a 'personal decision'.
State Department spokesperson Mark Toner said that Munter's two-year tenure was a 'perfectly normal period' for a US envoy to Islamabad.ccording to The News, Toner also indicated after hearing the news, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton praised Munter's efforts, and said she 'understood his decision.'
Munter had yesterday announced his decision to step down from his post, after serving less than two years on the job.
He has served at a time of tense relations between the U.S. and Pakistan, and his resignation comes amid strenuous relations between the two countries, which have reached an impasse on the issues of reopening of NATO supply routes and putting an end to drone strikes in the country by the U.S.
According to sources, the White House is looking at Richard Olson, who orchestrates U.S. development and economic activities in Afghanistan, to replace Munter. (ANI)
