Sydney, May 8 (ANI): An Indian-origin man residing in Australia has been found guilty of slaughtering his wife after she threatened to throw him out of their home.
After three days of deliberation, the jury passed a verdict for 24-year-old Chamanjot Singh, who killed his wife, Manpreet Kaur, at their Sydney home in December 2009.
The court heard that Singh had been caught in a triangle of desperation because he believed his wife was unfaithful to him, he was also under financial trouble and feared deportation.
According to news.com.au, Kaur's throat was cut eight times with a box cutter, the court heard.
Singh told the jury: "I just lost it, I had no control over my body or my mind" and couldn't remember what had happened.
He said he had only grabbed the box cutter, which he used in his work as a sports store cleaner, because Kaur "was telling me that she'd cut me".
The jury heard that the pair had argued on the night of the murder, and Kaur had called a relative in India who admonished Singh for sending money back to his mother.
Prosecutor Paul Leask told the jury that neighbours had reportedly heard Kaur scream for mercy during the murder.
Singh will face a sentencing hearing later this month. (ANI)
