London, May 6 (ANI): New England football team manager Roy Hodgson, has admitted to not possessing a 'thick skin' needed to deal with the pressures of the job.
"Without a shadow of a doubt, the job of England manager is the biggest job, quite frankly," the Telegraph quoted Hodgson, as saying.
"My forte, and what I want to do, is coach footballers; prepare, build and improve football teams. If I'm going to be vulnerable or lacking in any area, it might be that I don't have the thick enough skin to deal with you guys [the press]. Maybe I should develop one. But I'd rather that than not have the wherewithal to do the job," Hodgson added.
Hodgson also denied that there was a structural deficiency or lack of technical ability in English football, but was confident about England winning major tournaments if they were united as the Swiss squad that he took to the second round of the 1994 World Cup.
"Everyone, like ourselves, is surprised we haven't been able to capitalise on the talent we've produced. But it's going too far to say something's desperately wrong. We have to find that unity. The only way we're going to win anything is as a team," he said.
Hodgson will turn out for West Bromwich Albion, on Sunday ahead of the game against Bolton Wanderers, but said "it would be hard to maintain focus on his current job with England matters on his mind". (ANI)
