New Delhi, May 5 (IANS) A hundred motorcycle-borne head loaders from Pune, representing the unorganized sector, arrived in the capital Saturday for a week-long campaign to demand pension.

The head loaders, under the banner of 'Pension Parishad' were joined by street vendors as they kickstarted their campaign across the city from south Delhi's Vasant Kunj area.

"Nearly 90 years after India first celebrated Labour Day, 94 percent of India's labourers, which are in the unorganized sector work in poor working conditions with no access to social security," said an official of Pension Parishad.

"The unorganized workers have lost all hope for any support from the government during their old age. The demand for social security resonate loudly among them," added the official.

The National Association of Street Vendors in India too flagged off a 'pension bus', which along with the head loaders will tour the city markets creating awareness among street vendors about the issue.

"From May 7, the head loaders will join around 3,000 unorganized workers from across the country who would be camping at Jantar Mantar till May 11 pressing for the same demand," said the official.
