London, May 5(ANI): Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes his team's 4-4 draw against Everton at Old Trafford fourteen days back would be the main reason if they fail to retain the Premier League title.
Ferguson branded his team's display in the last ten minutes of their game against the Toffees as 'stupid', as the Red Devils threw away a 3-1 lead and then a 4-2 advantage during the game.
"I think the Everton game was the killer for us. It was an absolutely ridiculous -performance in the last 10 minutes of the match. Just absolute carelessness," The Daily Mirror quoted Ferguson, as saying.
"It's all right saying the history of the club is to attack all the time, but it was a stupid performance. If we lose the league we'll have to accept it's the Everton game that did it," he added.
United have taken just four points from their last four games while City have won four straight wins to gulp up their eight-point advantage, and Ferguson admits that their only hope is if Newcastle can take some points off City on Sunday.
He says City's goal difference advantage is too great for United to overturn in just two games.
"City have got two games left. If they win them, they've won the league. Say they win 3-0, that would give them a better goal difference over us of 11. I think's that's impossible to beat in this situation, isn't it?" Ferguson said.
"And they've still got Queens Park Rangers at home. So goals and goal difference does not apply, I don't think. We're on the back foot. We're not favourites, that's for sure," he added. (ANI)
