Yangon, April 30 (IANS) All 43 lawmakers-elect of the opposition National League for Democracy (NLD), including its long-incarcerated leader Aung San Suu Kyi, will Wednesday attend the ongoing session of parliament for the first time since the April 1 by-election, the party confirmed Monday.
The NLD gave up boycott of parliament in compliance with people's desire and request, said Suu Kyi, adding that the dispute over the oath sworn to parliament has been resolved.
Myanmar's two-house parliament resumed sessions in Naypyidaw April 23 after adjournment for a month, but NLD lawmakers refused to take their seats because the NLD wanted to swear the oath of office to "respect" rather than "safeguard" the constitution which they wanted to amend, reported Xinhua.
The NLD appeared to make concession on the oath of office, sources said.
The parliamentary sessions were being attended by 592 parliament members, including 377 members of the House of Representatives (Lower House) and 215 members of the House of Nationalities (Upper House), excluding 43 deputies from NLD.
The non-elected military representatives account for 25 percent of parliament members.
In the landmark April 1 by-elections, NLD won 43 out of 45 parliamentary seats, including 37 in the Lower House, four in the Upper House and two in local parliament.
