Interlocutor Halder meets Ranjan Daimary in Guwahati

Guwahati, April 25 (IANS) The central government's peace interlocutor for the the northeast and former Intelligence Bureau chief P.C. Halder met the chief of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) Ranjan Daimary inside the Guwahati Central Jail Wednesday.

 

The meeting assumes significance as the leaders of the NDFB faction led by Ranjan Daimary has been demanding his unconditional release for the smooth progress of the peace process.

 

Halder, however, did not comment on the prospect of Daimary's release and only said that the state government will take a decision on when to release him.

 

"The peace process has been moving forward smoothly. We are having a fruitful discussion and hope that the formal peace talks with the Bodo outfit will take place very soon," Halder told the media, who were waiting outside the prison.

 

Daimary was arrested in Bangladesh in 2009 and later handed over to India. He has been languishing in various jails of Assam since then.
