Andy Murray resisting girlfriend's pleas to get married

London , Wed, 25 Apr 2012 ANI

London, April 25(ANI): Andy Murray has revealed he is not yet ready to tie the knot and insisted that he will not be proposing to his girlfriend Kim Sears "no matter how much she is pushing" for him to get down on one knee.

The world No4 tennis star made the comments during a TV interview with chat show legend Sir David Frost, the Scottish Sun reported.

When asked if he was "secretly married" to long-term lover Kim, the Scottish star said: "No, not yet. No matter how much she is pushing me. I haven't fallen for it yet."

But the 24-year-old admitted that Kim - whose dad Nigel is a top tennis coach - is "very good for him" and understands the rigours and sacrifices of a globetrotting athlete.

"She understands the game and that there's a lot of travelling. It can be quite boring all the travelling. We also spend six or seven weeks apart from each other sometimes and she's been through that with her father, so that's useful," he said.

And the star, from Dunblane, Perthshire, quipped: "Because her dad's at tournaments he can keep an eye on me too."

Murray shares a 5-million-pound Surrey mansion with devoted Kim.

"I think in individual sports it's important to have a settled home life and it's been about seven years we've been together," he revealed.

In the interview on Al Jazeera TV, Murray also talks candidly about how the marriage break-up of his mum Judy and dad Willie when he was just nine affected him.

"I think that it's a difficult thing for anyone growing up to deal with. I talk to other players about it. It definitely takes a bit of time to understand why it might have happened and how you deal with it," he said.

"Now I understand it happens. It seems to happen more and more often, and to people I know every week or so.

"But my parents have both been great with me, and they come to as many games as they can.

"My mum is around the tournaments a lot because of her job as a tennis coach and my dad comes to Wimbledon every year," he added. (ANI)
