Zardari rules out unilateral withdrawal of troops from Siachen Glacier

Islamabad, Sat, 21 Apr 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Apr 21(ANI): Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has said the country was ready for a dialogue with India on all issues, but withdrawal of troops from the Siachen Glacier was possible only if both countries agreed to it.

"We are aware of the extreme climate and other difficulties at one of the world's most difficult terrains but the withdrawal [of troops] can only take place if the two governments decide to pull out from the area jointly," The Daily Times quoted Zardari, as saying.

Zardari said the Pakistan government believed that trade with India could bring prosperity to developing nations.

He said the government would also consider the proposal of Kashmir Affairs Minister Manzoor Wattoo to connect Multan with New Delhi through Head Sulemanki to boost trade."

He claimed that all powers were concentrated in the office of president when he assumed office, and added that he "transferred these powers to the real representatives of people in order to make parliament stronger".(ANI)
