Kate and Pippa Middleton 'among few Brits' to make it to Time's 100 list

London, Thu, 19 Apr 2012 ANI

London, Apr 19 (ANI): Duchess Kate, Pippa Middleton and Sarah Burton, who designed the wedding gown at last year's Royal wedding, have been included in Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

The sisters join US President Barack Obama, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the list.

While Prince William and the rest of the Royal family did not get a mention, David Cameron and David Beckham, who have both featured in previous years, failed to make the cut.

Burton's citation, written by 'Sex and the City' actress Sarah Jessica Parker, said the Alexander McQueen designer "did the undoable" by creating a dress that lived up to an "impossible dream".

The Middletons were described as "avatars of aspiration" because of their rise from commoners to scaling the palace walls in the Duchess's case, and for Pippa being "globally recognised, especially from behind".

They were two of just a handful of British entries, notable for the absence of politicians and the predominance of women.

Grammy award winning Adele and actress Tilda Swinton, who starred in 'We Need To Talk About Kevin', were among the other British representatives.

"We feel the space of history around her when she works, a sense that there is more than this. This conjuring of the quiet magnitude of human experience is what partly explains her magic. She evokes the bigger picture and occupies its centre," the Telegraph quoted Sally Potter, British director and screenwriter as saying about Swinton.

E.L. James, the British author of the bestseller 'Fifty Shades of Grey', was also included in the list. (ANI)
