'I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth' says Obama

Washington, Thu, 19 Apr 2012 ANI

Washington, Apr 19 (ANI): Recalling his working class roots and the career success that he has enjoyed, US President Barack Obama has said that he wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and firmly reiterated that he will continue to champion the cause of economic fairness in America.

Addressing participants at a college function in Ohio, Obama said he supported investment in job training programs that connect community colleges with unemployed workers.

"When you take classes at a community college like this one, and you learn the skills that you need to get a job right away way. That does not just benefit you; it benefits the company that ends up hiring and profiting from your skills. It makes this country stronger economically," The Los Angeles Times quoted Obama, as saying.

"What's the better way to make our economy stronger? Give more tax breaks to every millionaire and billionaire in the country, or make investments in education and research and healthcare and job training?" Obama asked, referring to the Senate Republicans who earlier this week blocked his proposed "Buffett rule", which required millionaires to pay at least 30 percent of their income in taxes. (ANI)
