New Delhi, April 18 (IANS) A 22-year-old man was arrested for demanding extortion of Rs.2 crore from his employer, police said Wednesday.

Police arrested Azruddin when he came to collect the money kept in a bag by the victim as directed by the police, a senior police official said.

Kanti Lal, who owns a footwear company and is resident of Paschim Vihar Extension in west Delhi, had filed a complaint on April 12 that he was getting ransom calls on his phone from different telephone numbers from some unknown persons.

"They were demanding a ransom of Rs.2 crore and threatened that if not paid his son Vipul along with his grandson, who are residing in Ahmedabad, would be killed," said a police official.

"When Lal again received a call on April 14, we found that the number he got the call from was activated the same day," added the official.

"The accused again made a call and demanded Rs.2 crore. He asked Lal to deliver the amount near Madipur Metro Station. Around 8 p.m., police and Lal reached the site and arrested Azruddin."

Azruddin was a labourer in Lal's factory.

"As he needed money, so he planned to extort money from his employer. He had taken a loan to marry his sister and he was influenced by a TV serial," said an official.
