Gilani's lawyer questions Pak SC bench's eligibility to hear contempt of court case

Islamabad, Apr 12(ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan has questioned the Supreme Court bench's eligibility to hear the contempt of court case.

The seven-member bench including Justice Nasirul Mulk, Justice Asif Khosa, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, Justice Ajaz Afzal Khan, Justice Ajaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmad and Justice Athar Syed was hearing the case.

Ahsan said according to the Article 10A of the Pakistan constitution, the sitting bench was ineligible to hear the case, The Dawn reports.

In reply, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa said that no single person but the whole bench was using its right to hear the case.

He added all proceedings in the contempt of court cases were heard by the court.

Ahsan said that after imposition of Article 10A, the century- old law regarding the contempt of court has been changed.

The court has adjourned the hearing till April 13. (ANI)
