Delhi,Crime/Disaster/Accident,Defence/Security, Tue, 10 Apr 2012 IANS

New Delhi, April 10 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday received an official complaint from Indian Army chief General V.K. Singh alleging he was offered a bribe of Rs.14 crore by a retired defence officer in exchange for clearing a tranche of 600 sub-standard vehicles.

General Singh had earlier given a statement to media on the bribe offer and said he had reported the matter to Defence Minister A.K. Antony, but he had not filed any written complaint.

"Finally, Gen. Singh submitted a written complaint to CBI that he was offered a bribe of Rs.14 crore by an ex-army officer who wanted him to sign the deal on defective vehicles to be bought by the army," said a senior CBI official.

CBI authorities have said that a probe will be conducted according to standard protocol.

The complaint now filed by the army chief is against Lt Gen (retd) Tejinder Singh, said sources.

CBI has also asked the army chief to give a detailed account regarding his complaint and submit supporting documents.

Tejinder Singh has denied the allegations and has filed a defamation case against the army chief and other concerned army officials.
