Tejinder Singh denies bribery charge

Delhi,Defence/Security,Immigration/Law/Rights, Tue, 10 Apr 2012 IANS

New Delhi, April 10 (IANS) Lt Gen (retd) Tejinder Singh denied in a court Tuesday offering any bribe to sell military trucks to the Indian Army.

The allegation, made by army chief General V.K. Singh, was 'absolutely false, ill-founded and concocted', he told Metropolitan Magistrate Sudesh Kumar.

'The allegation was that I had offered bribe on behalf of Tatra and Vectra Ltd which supplies vehicles to BEML. This allegation is absolutely false, ill-founded and concocted, and I deny the same.'

Vectra company manufactures the Tatra vehicles used by the army.

The army chief alleged that he was offered a kickback of Rs.14 crore by a retired officer to clear a tranche of 600 vehicles and he immediately told Defence Minister A.K. Antony about the bribe offer.

Tejinder Singh, who retired in 2010 from the post of director general of Defence Intelligence Agency, asked the court to summon and initiate proceedings against the army chief and others for making the allegation.

The court said it would rule April 21 on whether to summon the army chief.
