Sri Lankan opposition leader discusses Tamil resettlement issue with Krishna
New Delhi, Apr 10 (ANI): Sri Lankan leader Ranil Wickramasinghe, who is currently on a visit to New Delhi, called on External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna on Tuesday during which the duo discussed the speedy resettlement of displaced Tamils in the island nation.
Wickramasinghe, who is a leader of the main opposition United National Party (UNP), said there must be agreement between the government and opposition on the resettlement issue.
"We had a good discussion on what the further outcome should be. The UNP (United National Party) stand is it should be Sri Lankan solution, which can be based the LLRC (Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission) report, and there must be agreement between government and opposition parties," he said.
The Sri Lanka opposition leader conceded that some problems had cropped up in rehabilitation process and it would be raised during Parliament session in May.
"Rehabilitation process is going on, I wouldn't say, it is not. But there are problems that have come up. Some areas, which are of concerns to us-in the opposition. I visited the north in March and we have got a full report. When Parliament meets in May, we want to raise these apprehensions and what are the issues that we can clear," said Wickramasinghe.
"We want a speedy resettlement done in the north. There have been delays, I must say, there are problems, which are yet be addressed. But we are committed to speedy resettlement and we will push on that," he added. (ANI)
