BJP condemns improper allotment of land in Maharashtra

New Delhi, Thu, 05 Apr 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Apr 5 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday condemned the improper allotment of land in Maharashtra as per the findings of the leaked CAG report.

"This is another example of the loot that has taken place during the Congress rule. The CAG report has disclosed the improper allotment of land in Maharashtra. Several ministers are involved in this in the name of organization or in the name of other use. We condemn fully the manner in which the land has been allotted improperly," said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar.

"Now, the government should clarify what it is going to do now because the issue after Public Interest Litigations (PILs) will move the court. Similar verdicts will follow as the verdict with regard to the lallotted to Ghai (Subhash Ghai)," he added.

Union Science and Technology Minister and former Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has been accused of giving preferential allotment of a plot in Mumbai to a trust founded by him and holding on to it for four years in breach of conditions in the CAG report.

The 23,840 square meter plot in suburban Borivali was allotted to the Manjara Charitable Trust by the government on September 28, 2005, when Deshmukh was chief minister, for opening a dental college at an occupancy price of Rs.6.56 crore.

Apart from Deshmukh, state cabinet ministers Narayan Rane, Chhagan Bhujbal, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil and Patangrao Kadam have also been accused of being involved in the land scam.

He has also been accused of giving land at a cheap price to filmmaker Subhash Ghai for building a film-training institute called Whistling Woods.

Deshmukh, however, today said that he would react to the Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) indictment of him in connection with several alleged land scams after the CAG report is tabled in the Maharashtra State Assembly. (ANI)
