Northeast tribals get National Tribal Awards

New Delhi, Mar 29 (ANI): Three tribal achievers from the northeast recently received the coveted National Tribal Awards in New Delhi.

Guru Rewben Mashangva is one of the most famous artists from Manipur. He was felicitated for his tireless efforts to promote Naga folk music at the national and international level.

Rewben is a Tanghkul Naga by origin and is popularly known as "The King of Naga folk blues" not just in the Northeast but also all across the country.

"It's amazing, I can't imagine even though I am from village from a far place and away from town and city but today people has recognized my hard work and giving me such a big National award so this is a great challenging in my life. I feel very good and I am so happy to get this award," said Mashangva.

Next to receive the award was M C Mary Kom five times World Boxing Champion from Manipur. Her husband K Onler Kom received the award on her behalf as she was away participating in the Asian Boxing Championship.

Binny Yanaga from Arunachal Pradesh also received the award for exemplary community service in the region.

"I am very happy today because for the past 32 years I have been working for my people. I am happy with what I have done and I feel great to receive this award," said Binny Yanaga.

The award ceremony also showcased the culture of the northeast. Folk dance troupes displayed the rich cultural traditions of the region. Dancers from other parts of the country also performed at the event that was organized under the aegis of Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

Over the years, Northeast has produced many talented people who have brought laurels to the country in different fields like sports, arts, literature and music. by Themthingchon Y R (ANI)
