Williamson's century helps New Zealand salvage draw in Wellington Test

Wellington, Tue, 27 Mar 2012 ANI

Wellington, Mar 27(ANI): New Zealand middle order batsman Kane Williamson scored a brilliant century to help his team salvage a draw in the final Test match in Wellington, after South Africa had set them a final innings target of 390 to chase in 89 overs.

At one stage of the match, Proteas were well poised to win the series 2-0, as the Black Caps were reeling at 83 for five, but Williamson's knock of 102 steered the Kiwis to 200 for six when stumps were drawn.

Williamson found a useful partner in Kruger van Wyk when the team was trying to hold on to save the Test match. The pair added 80 runs in 100 minutes, with Van Wyk scoring a valuable 39.

New Zealand has still lost the series 1-0, but this draw was a worthy one given South Africa's domination of this match, and the quality of their bowling attack.

Morne Morkel was the pick of the South African bowlers in the second innings, finishing with career-best figures of six for 23, and could have snared more, had his teammates' catching been better. (ANI)
