London, Mar 26(ANI): Former England cricketer Darren Gough has revealed he once trained fully-clothed in a sauna to conquer the soaring temperatures in Sri Lanka.
Gough warned that England would have to conquer the blast-furnace heat of Sri Lanka, ahead of the Test series.
"Sri Lanka is the hottest and hardest place to play Test cricket because the heat and humidity is overpowering - it's like the top shelf of the oven. When we won the Test series there 2-1 in 2001, after going 1-0 down, it was -probably the most satisfying win of my England career," The Daily Mirror quoted Gough, as saying.
"I was warned it was going to be hotter than anything I had experienced before. So I decided that extreme conditions required extreme preparations - I used to train, fully-clothed, in the sauna," he added.
Gough was a breathless exponent of the new ball 11 years ago when Nasser Hussain's side recovered from a series of scandalous umpiring decisions in the first Test to win an ill-tempered series 2-1.
The temperature in the middle at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo reached a -staggering 127.6 degrees Fahrenheit, or 53.1 Celsius in the subsequent one-day series.
Gough, 41, also expressed confidence that England will win the series.
"Apart from Bangladesh, it's amazing to think England haven't won a Test series on the subcontinent since we won in Sri Lanka in 2001 - but we'll win this one," he added. (ANI)
