Hole in rear wing of Schumacher's car soars temperature

Sepang (Malaysia) , Sat, 24 Mar 2012 ANI

Sepang (Malaysia), Mar 24(ANI): Seven times Formula One champion Michael Schumacher created a whiff of controversy due to a small hole in his Mercedes car's rear wing.

Against a backdrop of rebellious mumbling from rival bosses the Formula One Association has twice ruled his car as legal.

But there could yet be a post-race protest by Kimi Raikkonen's Lotus team if Schumacher reaches the podium this weekend, with Red Bull boss Christian Horner looking for ultimate explanation from race steward Charlie Whiting on Mercedes gizmo car.

The controversy in Schumacher's car has been created because when the DRS overtaking flap falls, it exposes a small hole which channels air back under the front wing to increase the car's speed.

However, Schumacher has tried to play it down, as he looks to end the longest winless streak of his career.

"Some people get a little bit too excited about this. But that's the usual story. There's no doubt we have an innovation that gives us some performance but I don't think that it is huge," The Mirror quoted Schumacher, as saying.

Schumacher was the only driver to split the McLaren racers Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button during the practice session, with Hamilton posting fastest laps in both practice sessions in Sepang. (ANI)
