New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): About 75 students from the eight states of the northeast, recently met the Union Home Secretary R K Singh in New Delhi after the conclusion of their country wide tour.

The students visited Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai during their month long Bharat Parikrama tour.

During their interaction with Singh, the children discussed several issues pertaining to the Northeast like peace, development, infrastructure, education, and trade. Singh also asked them about their experiences in different cities and urged them to come forward and contribute to the development of the Northeast.

"We must raise our voice against the underground groups who try to pick up guns and create disruption in the ongoing development work. We should build up a public opinion against these groups so that we can get better roads and infrastructure," said Singh.

The programme aimed at exposing youth to the rich and diverse social and cultural heritage of the country and to get a firsthand experience of latest developments in all spheres of life that will help them to widen their horizon. The tour was organized under the aegis of Nehru Yuva Kendra with support from the central government.

" It is very nice for the youth program so that we get to know more about the different culture and about the development going around the country. We also get to know more about the youth of other regions," said Edward, a participant from Karbi Anglong District of Assam.

"The main objective of this program is to know other cultures. So we all students from different states came together, interacted with each other and learnt about each other's cultures through singing and dancing. This program is very fruitful to us," said Vetakeyho, a participant from Nagaland.

Such programs are expected to go a long way in bringing the youth of the northeastern region closer to people in other parts in the country. By: Devesh Gupta (ANI)
