Agartala, Mar 23 (ANI): Tripura recently hosted a three-day tribal festival where different tribal communities from northeast region showcased their folk dances in an effort to promote and preserve the rich and diverse culture of the region.

More than 300 participants from different parts of the northeast performed their traditional dances in the festival held at Agartala.

The event was organized under the aegis of Tribal Research Institute of Tripura Tribal Welfare Department with support from the Union Tribal Welfare Ministry.

The event was aimed at raising awareness of the young generation about their culture. A large crowd gathered at the venue to see the performances.

"Such festivals are very important as we need to preserve our traditions and culture. When we participate in such shows, our children get to see the traditional dances and learn more about them," said Techi Pachu, a participant from Arunachal Pradesh.

"More such cultural programs and festivals should be organized so that the traditional culture, folk songs, and dance forms can be preserved and revived. Through this festival people can see and learn more about their culture and traditions," said Kamal Kaloi, a visitor.

During the festival, the participants also played various traditional tribal games that the younger generation was not familiar with. Besides dance and music, a small exhibition of traditional tribal fine arts, handicrafts, handlooms, ornaments and traditional weapons was set up which attracted many visitors as well.

"Such programmes help the people from other communities to learn more about each other and promote unity. They help the younger generation learn about their culture and history as well," said Shyamalal Debbarma, member, Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous Development Council.

The festival provided a platform for the artists from the northeast to come together and learn from each other and also showcase their talent. (ANI)
