Imran Khan-led PTI rejects parliamentary panel report on reviewing ties with US

Karachi, Thu, 22 Mar 2012 ANI

Karachi, Mar 22(ANI): The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has rejected the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) report, which aims at reviewing ties with the United States (US).

PTI slammed the document as a "farce" and an insult to people's desire to extricate themselves from the US-backed War on terror which has become a "war on terror for Pakistan citizens, The Express Tribune reports.

A PTI statement said the party would not accept any compromise on drone strikes and reopening of NATO supply route that has been sealed after the deadly November 26 raid.

Pakistan's Opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had earlier criticized the report, saying that it had nothing "extraordinary" in it as the ideas expressed in it had always been everyone's view.

Nisar added it was futile to draft new policy terms for reviewing ties with the US as the Pakistan government will fail to implement the recommendations.

The parliamentary panel had proposed that at least 50 percent of NATO supplies passing through Pakistan be handled through railways.

The recommendations also stated that Pakistan should demand an unconditional apology from the US for the November 26, 2011 air attack on the Salala check post, and called on the latter to halt done strikes. (ANI)
