Target killings ended but extortion continuing in Karachi: Rehman Malik

Islamabad, Mon, 19 Mar 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Mar 19 (ANI): Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that target killings have ended in Karachi, but extortion is continuing, and the operation has started against the extortion mafia.

Malik claimed that 103 extortionists have been arrested during operation in different areas of Karachi and that action would be taken against them, The Dawn reports.

He further claimed that the crime rate has risen, as there is a shortage of policemen deployed, and their strength would be increased shortly.

He added that he had come to Karachi to provide relief to the citizens, on the instructions of President Asif Ali Zardari.

Malik also said that the concerns shared by the President and MQM chief Altaf Hussain, over the extortion mafia, are genuine and that the PPP, the MQM and the ANP are not sheltering the extortionists, in-fact all political parties are against it. (ANI)
