Lucknow, Mar 15 (ANI): The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday welcomed Akhilesh Yadav, becoming Uttar Pradesh's youngest chief minister, saying people of the state have high hopes from the young leader, and see him as a successful politician of the future.

"Our supremo and chairperson of the All India Trinamool Congress, Mamata Banerjee, has sent me and I am representing the All India Trinamool Congress here. This is not just the oath ceremony of Akhilesh Yadav; I feel that he is being crowned in Lucknow. The people have lot of hopes from him and people are seeing him as a successful politician in future and he will work in favour of the people," said TMC General Secretary Sultan Ahmed.

"He will also work towards developing the state, which is lagging behind in the race of development. So, from today onwards, like the innings begin in the game of cricket, so his innings will begin from today after taking oath," he added.

Akhilesh, 38, became the youngest chief minister of India's largest and most populous state of Uttar Pradesh today.

Uttar Pradesh Governor B.L. Joshi administered the oath of office to Akhilesh at a ceremony here in presence of Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, family members, leaders of various political parties and prominent personalities.

Nineteen Ministers of Cabinet rank were also administered oath besides 29 Ministers of State.

Thursday's swearing-in ceremony took place nine days after the Samajwadi Party secured an absolute majority in the seven-phased state assembly elections.

Akhilesh and his party won 224 of the 403 state assembly seats. (ANI)
