New Delhi, Wed, 14 Mar 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 14 (ANI): Colombo has expressed displeasure over Tamil Nadu MP's demand of backing US led resolution on war crimes.

Speaking to ANI here on Wednesday, Lankan High Commissioner to India Prasad Kariyawasam said members of parliament from Tamil Nadu have been lobbied by pro LTTE groups active in Tamil Nadu.

"I think stalling of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha is unfortunate, we feel they are being lobbied by groups supportive of LTTE who were and are supporting LTTE ideology now based in western countries, they seem to be lobbying heavily in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere as a result it appears that there is a misperception of the real ground situation in Sri Lanka.

"Members of parliament belonging to AIDMK, DMK and left have been putting pressure on the Centre and had stalled the house thrice on Tuesday demanding India vote in favor of a forthcoming United Nations Human Rights Council resolution which is backed by United States and deals with alleged "war crimes" by the Sri Lankan government.

Kariyawasam further said that Tamil Nadu political leaders, for whom Sri Lanka had great respect and affinity have been misinformed and ill informed about situation in Sri Lanka.

Inviting Tamil leaders to visit Sri Lanka, Kariyawasam said: "We would like them to visit, talk to us and engage with us so that we can understand their concerns and take action accordingly without doing so their agitation at Lok sabha and Rajya Sabha is unfortunate".

Earlier in the day External Affairs Minister SM Krishna informed Parliament that India is yet to take a stand on the US initiated draft resolution on Promoting reconilation and accountability in Sri Lanka at the ongoing 19th session of the UN human rights council in Geneva.

Lankan High Commisioner said "India is a responsible world power, they understand the importance of good relations with countries in the region and in the context of ongoing dialogue between India and Sri Lanka on all issues concrng rehabilitation and reconstruction of war affected areas in Sri Lanka" He added

"We are confident that India will take right decison at right time" he added. (ANI)
