Jermain Defoe visits gay club to watch girlfriend Burke perform
London, Mar 13 (ANI): Jermain Defoe attended a gig at a gay nightclub right after his game as his popstar girlfriend Alexandra Burke was performing there live.
The Tottenham Hotspur striker travelled 220 miles to be with her and became the first Premier League star to visit G-A-Y since Jamie Redknapp back in 1997.
Defoe, 29, jumped straight on a train after his side's defeat against Everton on Saturday to make it to the gig at Heaven in central London.
He watched with members of his family as Burke performed tracks including new single 'Elephant'.
G-A-Y hasn't had a high profile footie star at the club night since Redknapp saw then wife-to-be Louise perform 'Let's Go Round Again' there 15 years ago.
"Jermain wanted to show his support for Alexandra and didn't see the location as a big deal. He didn't even think about it," the Sun quoted a source as saying.
"After the show was over they met up in the VIP area and were all over each. They didn't care who saw," the source said.
The English footballer posed for snaps before the show but managed to avoid being pictured with Burke.
The singer wasn't the only one who was pleased to see him at her G-A-Y gig.
The night's promoter, Jeremy Joseph, was beaming about having a top sportsman in the audience.
"Jermain is a high-profile footballer so for him to treat it as just a normal night is great. It's a huge political statement without him even realising it. There shouldn't be a stigma about footballers coming to G-A-Y.
"All are welcome - as long as they know the dance routine to Steps' 'Tragedy'!" he said. (ANI)
