'Agitated' Cairns constrained from confronting Modi in court over spot-fixing allegations

London, Mar 10(ANI): Former Kiwi cricketer Chris Cairns was pulled from the London High Court by his lawyer after he tried confront Lalit Modi on the fifth day of his libel suit.

Carins became agitated when it was revealed that Modi would not reportedly face cross-examination at the court since the defence had decided against calling him as a witness.

Cairns left his seat near the front of the room and made his way to the back of the court, gesticulating in Modi's direction but a member of his team stopped him from reaching Modi.

Judge David Bean called an early finish of proceedings after it emerged Modi would not give evidence, stuff.co.nz reports.

Cairns has sued Modi over a 2010 tweet that alleged that the former had been barred from the Indian Premier League due to involvement in match-fixing in the rival Indian Cricket League but Cairns rejected the claim as "wholly untrue".

Cairns was captain of the Chandigarh team in the ICL Twenty20 competition, but his contract was terminated in October 2008, along with teammate Dinesh Mongia, who has been accused of being a co-conspirator.

The official version for the Cairns' axing was that he had breached his contract for failing to disclose an injury. (ANI)
