Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan 'number two sacked': Spokesman

Islamabad , Tue, 06 Mar 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Mar 6 (ANI): The number two commander of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has been sacked, a spokesman has said.

According to Ehsanullah Ehsan, Maulvi Faqir Mohammad was removed at a meeting presided over by TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud at a secret location in Pakistan's northwestern tribal belt, but added that he would remain within the organization as an ordinary member.

"A shura meeting was held on Sunday and it decided to remove Maulvi Faqir Mohammad from the position of deputy chief of TTP," The Express Tribune quoted him, as saying.

Ehsan neither gave any reason for the removal nor announced any successor.

A source close to the Taliban said that Faqir fell out of favour with Mehsud over his alleged support for peace talks with the Pakistan government. (ANI)
